Bio
Jason Maus enters his 16th year as the head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach at Ohio Northern in 2024-25.
In 15 years at ONU, he has guided the men’s cross country team to a 476-387 record, a .792 win percentage, and four Ohio Athletic Conference crowns, while the women’s cross country team has compiled a 272-494 record, a .720 win percentage, and three OAC titles.
He is the all-time winningest coach at ONU for men's and women's cross country.
During the 2023 season, the men's program posted a 97-16 overall record, and the women's program captured its 21st consecutive OAC upper-division finish and and sixth straight top-10 finish at the regional meet while closing with an overall record of 84-22.

The women's cross country team had six All-OAC finishers and freshman AnnaSophia Gower earned All-Great Lakes Region honors and competed in the NCAA III Championships in 2023.
In 2022, Tessa Pitcovich qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships and earned the NCAA Elite 90 Award.
Pitcovich also qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2019 and 2021. She earned the NCAA Elite 90 award and was named Division III All-Ohio Female Runner of the Year and was a selection for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team and All-District 7 First Team in 2021.
Maus and his coaching staff were named the OAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year in 2010 and 2011 and the OAC Men's Coaching Staff of the Year in 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
He was also tabbed the All-Ohio Division III Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2015 after guiding Northern to a first-place finish at the All-Ohio Championships. In addition, he and his coaching staff were named the 2017 All-Ohio Men's Coaching Staff of the Year following the team's first-place finish in Cedarville.
In 2017, Maus guided the men's cross country team to its third consecutive OAC title, marking the first time a cross country team has won three titles in a row in school history.
He also led the 2016 squad to its second-best national championship finish in program history at the NCAA Division III Championships in Louisville, Ky., as Northern finished 14th in a 32-team field before his 2017 squad finished 19th in a 32-team field.
Maus led the Ohio Northern cross country teams to dual OAC Championship titles and a combined 236-61 record in 2011 after the men finished 103-33 and the women ended 133-28.
He is no stranger to the Polar Bear program, having served as an assistant cross country and track and field coach at ONU from 2002-08, where he coached the distance runners and was the recruiting coordinator.
Maus came to Ohio Northern from Heidelberg where he was a three-time Academic All-American in cross country and track and field. He was also a two-time OAC champion in track and a two-time All-OAC honoree in cross country.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg in 2002 and his master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 2005.
Maus was part of the OAC Women’s Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year in 2005, 2006 and 2008 and Men’s Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year in 2007 and 2008.
Maus previously served as the Division III President of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for two seasons.
He also serves as a lecturer in the business college at ONU. Maus is USATF Level I and Level II certified in distance and throws.
He and his wife, Lindsey, live in Ada with their sons, Hayden and Jackson.
