ADA — Senior Aidan Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) scored four goals and Ohio Northern's defense turned in another outstanding performance to record a 14-2 men's lacrosse victory over Muskingum on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (8-4 overall, 3-1 OAC), Muskingum (7-5 overall, 1-3 OAC).
- Venue: Dial-Roberson Stadium - Ada, Ohio.
The Game
- Dempsey had five points on four goals and an assist and fifth-year senior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) stopped four of five shots on goal to lead the Polar Bears.
- Northern scored the game's first five goals to lead 5-0 with 11:46 gone in the first quarter.
- Dempsey wrapped up his fourth hat trick of the season with a goal at the 14:50 mark of the opening period to make it 6-1.
- The Polar Bears would extend the run to 9-0, holding the Muskies without a goal for more than 47 minutes, to take a 14-1 lead with 1:15 left in the game.
- Sophomores John Hale (West Chester/Lakota West) and Mark Mintzlaff (St. Louis, Mo./Country Day) added two goals each for ONU.
- In all, nine different Ohio Northern players accounted for the team's 14 goals.
- ONU out-shot MU 48-27.

- Dempsey now ranks fifth all-time in ONU history with 121 points in his career. He ranks fourth with 85 career goals and is sixth with 37 assists.
- He also leads the team in scoring this season with 28 goals and 37 points.
- In all, 24 different Polar Bears have scored goals this season with six more adding at least one assist.
- Senior Chad Calderwood (Portland, Ore./Episcopal) won five faceoffs on the day, extending his school record to 377 for his career.
- Senior Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) is sixth at ONU with 65 career goals, is seventh with 30 assists and is sixth with 95 points.
- Fifth-year senior Riley O'Neal (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) is fifth with 38 career assists.
- Zafarakis holds the ONU career records for saves (553), wins (43) and goalie minutes played (3,457).
- ONU now leads the all-time series with MU by an 8-0 margin, which includes a 5-0 mark at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
- Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his ninth season at Ohio Northern with an 87-46 record and has a winning percentage of .654.
