Freshman Mitchel Luck scores first career hat trick as Men's Lacrosse falls in tight 11-9 game at Hampden-Sydney (Va.)

HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. — Freshman Mitchel Luck (Linden, Mich.) had his first career hat trick to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team in a tight 11-9 loss at Hampden-Sydney (Va.) on Sunday afternoon.

The Game

• Senior Sebastian Michaud (Springboro) scored two goals to join Luck as multiple goal scorers for Ohio Northern.
• Michaud added an assist both he and Luck finished with three points.
• The game was tight throughout, as it was tied at 3-3, 5-5 and 7-7 after each of the first three quarters.
• HSC scored twice in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to lead 9-7 with 10:56 to go.
• Fifth-year senior Andrew Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y.) scored with 10:23 left to bring the Polar Bears within 9-8.
• The Tigers scored at the 8:08 mark and the 5:23 mark to extend their lead to 11-8.
• Luck finished his hat trick with his third goal of the game with 1:22 remaining to cut the lead to 11-9.
• Hampden-Sydney would win the ensuing faceoff and run out the clock.
• Senior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had 11 saves on 22 shots on goal for the visitors.
• HSC out-shot ONU 35-28 and won the ground ball battle 39-19.

• Senior Aiden Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) scored a goal and now has 106 points in his career. He ranks fourth with 74 career goals and is sixth with 33 assists.
• Senior Chad Calderwood (Portland, Ore./Episcopal) won five faceoffs on the day, extending his school record to 331 for his career. 
• Michaud is sixth at ONU with 61 career goals, is seventh with 28 assists and is seventh with 89 points.
• Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his ninth season at Ohio Northern with an 83-44 record and has a winning percentage of .654.
