Men's Basketball falls 82-75 in tight battle with No. 3 John Carroll

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's basketball team fell 82-75 in a tight battle with No. 3 John Carroll on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (9-8 overall, 4-6 OAC), #3 John Carroll (16-1 overall, 10-0 OAC)

The Game

• Freshman Carter Reese (Westerville/North) led the Polar Bears with 19 points.
• Sophomore Will Miller (Ottoville) finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.
• Freshman Jadi Cunningham Jr. (Columbus/Westerville South) added 12 points, four rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
• Sophomore Mason Studer (Galion/Colonel Crawford) was 3-for-3 from 3-point range and finished with 11 points off the bench.
• Luke Chicone led the Blue Streaks with 22 points.
• In a tighlty contested first half, ONU took a 39-33 lead on a layup from freshman Theo Maag (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) with 50 seconds left.
• Reese beat the halftime buzzer with a layup on an assist from Cunningham Jr. to send ONU into the break up 41-36.
• The Polar Bears continued to lead until a 3-pointer from JCU's Luke Frazier tied the score at 51-all with 12:25 left in the game.
• That triple started a 10-0 run that put JCU up 58-51 with 9:20 remaining.
• The Blue Streaks extended their lead to nine, 67-58, with 5:39 left.
• A 3-pointer from Studer followed by a layup from junior Blake Michael (Fremont/St. Joseph Central Catholic) pulled ONU within one, 67-66, with 3:51 remaining, but JCU answered with an 8-0 run en route to the victory.
• Ohio Northern made 30-of-58 field goal attempts for 51.7% and was 8-of-23 from 3-point range for 34.8%.
• JCU was 29-of-61 shooting for 47.5% and was 2-of-9 on 3-pointers for 22.2%.
• ONU was 7-of-11 from the foul line for 63.6%, and JCU was 22-of-31 for 71%.
• JCU out-rebounded ONU by a 37-30 margin, while the Polar Bears finished with a 21-10 edge in assists.

• Reese has now scored in double figures in 14 games this season. His season-high is 25 points.
• Miller recorded his 11th double-figure scoring game of the season.
• Cunningham Jr. has scored in double figures in 12 games this season.
