MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Ohio Northern sophomore Claire Schweller (Paulding) earned All-America honors in the pole vault with a fifth place finish at the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on a warm and sunny Thursday afternoon.

Top ONU Performers

  • Schweller was fifth of 22 in the pole vault by clearing 3.86 meters (12' 8").
  • She cleared her first three bars (3.56m, 3.71m and 3.76m) on her first attempt.
  • After two misses at 3.81, Schweller cleared the bar on her third and final attempt to clinch All-America honors for the first time in her career. 

Notables

  • Schweller was the No. 5 seed in the pole vault, qualifying with a career-best 3.93 meters during the season. That mark ranks second all-time at ONU.
  • She is the third ONU woman to earn All-America honors in the pole vault.
  • The top 22 individuals nationally during the regular season qualified for the NCAA III Championships.
  • The top 8 finishers in each event earn All-America honors.
  • Schweller also qualified for the NCAA III Indoor Championships in March, finishing ninth, clearing 3.70 meters.
  • Schweller also swept the Ohio Athletic Conference titles in the pole vault at both the Indoor and Outdoor Championships earlier this season.
  • Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 15th year at Ohio Northern and is 490-173-3 with women's outdoor track and field for a winning percentage of .738.
