Men's Golf opens 2024 fall season with second place finish at own ONU Wilson Football Kickoff Golf Classic in Honor of Joe Campoli tournament

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's golf team opened the fall portion of its 2024-25 season with a second place finish at the ONU Wilson Football Kickoff Golf Classic in Honor of Joe Campoli tournament Sunday and Monday at Colonial Golfers Club.
The Basics
- The teams played 36 holes - 18 on Sunday and 18 on Monday.
- Ohio Northern finished second of 5 teams with a 309-308—617.
- Heidelberg won the team title with a 312-302—614, Adrian (Mich.) was third with a 321-302—623, Baldwin Wallace was fourth with a 315-321—636 and Bluffton was fifth with a 351-356—707. Capital only played on Monday and carded a 309.
- ONU Season Record: 3-1.
- Venue: Colonial G.C. - Harrod, Ohio.
ONU Individuals
- Freshman Ian Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) tied for first out of 54 golfers with a 77-72—149. He fell in a 1-hole playoff for Medalist honors.
- Senior David Walsh (Cincinnati/Moeller) and juniors Joey DeSimone (Munroe Falls/Stow-Munroe Falls) and Will Copfer (Cincinnati/Moeller) tied for third with 151s.
- Freshman Gordon Kopmeyer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./St. Mary's) tied for sixth with a 75-78—153.
Notables
- Briars eventually fell in a 1-hole playoff for Medalist honors.
- In all, 28 different Polar Bear men competed in the tournament.
- ONU head coach Chad Bucci is 372-363-16 in his 12th season at the helm of the men's program, a winning percentage of .506.
