WEST LAFAYETTE — Junior Marisa Alfes (Bellbrook) won Medalist honors to lead the Ohio Northern women's golf team to a second place finish at the 2025 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday.

The Basics

  • Ohio Northern finished second of nine teams with a 322-326-344-330—1322.
  • Mount Union won the team title by two strokes with a 320-329-343-328—1320, Otterbein was third at 338-338-341-349—1366 and Heidelberg was fourth with a 337-349-345-345—1376.
  • The teams played the final 18 of the tournament's 72 holes on Sunday after playing 27 on Friday and Saturday.

ONU Individuals

  • Alfes entered the final round with a 2-shot lead and carded a 76 holds on Sunday to win the individual title by two strokes with a 25-over par 79-76-82-76—313.
  • Senior Amelia Burger (Centerville) was third out of 44 golfers with a 76-80-83-81—320.
  • Both Alfes and Burger earned All-Conference honors.
  • Sixth-year senior Torrie Smith (Kokomo, Ind./Western) tied for 15th with an 87-88-90-84—349.
  • Freshman Mallory Meister (Milan/Edison) tied for 15th with an 83-82-91-93—349.
  • Freshman Taylor Blackburn (Liberty Township/Lakota West) tied for 19th with an 84-92-89-89—354.

Notables

  • This marks the fourth time in the last five seasons that an Ohio Northern player has been named Medalist at the OAC Championships.
  • Burger is now just one of seven ONU players to be named All-Conference in four consecutive seasons, having finished seventh or better in each of her four OAC Tournaments.
  • Alfes is now a three-time All-OAC honoree.
  • Alfes' score of 313 tied her own mark as the third lowest 72-hole score in ONU history.
  • Burger's 320 is the seventh-lowest in school history and her career best.
  • Ohio Northern has captured three OAC Championships titles in its history, winning the crown in 2024, 2021 and 2007.
  • This season, Alfes led the team with an 80.5 average for 21 rounds, with Burger right behind at 80.9 for 20 rounds.
  • Blackburn was third at 86.1 for 19 rounds.
