ONU Race Notes: The Ohio Northern men's cross country team will get its first look at the host site for the 2018 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional meet this Saturday, September 15 when the Polar Bears travel to Shelbyville, Indiana to compete in the Blue River Park Memorial College Invitational ... The women's 6k event is set to kick off the evening from the Blue River Cross Country Course at 4 p.m. with the men's 8k race to follow at 5 p.m. ... In the men's edition, seven teams will vie for the team title, including Ohio Northern, Anderson (Ind.), Bluffton, Earlham (Ind.), Trine (Ind.), Wabash (Ind.), and Manchester (Ind.), who will serve as the meet host ... Northern is fresh off an 11th-place effort among a talented field of 23 competing teams at the Calvin (Mich.) Knight Invitational last weekend ... Former All-American and current senior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe) crossed the tape third overall in 25:06, recording the fastest time among Division III competitors and placing first for the Polar Bears in his 12th consecutive race ... For his efforts, McVey was named OAC Runner of the Week for the second straight voting period and the USTFCCCA's NCAA Division III Men's National Athlete of the Week ... Sophomore Jordan Green, senior Spencer Schulze, freshman Caden Sauerbrey, and freshman Patrick Baker wound up second-through-fifth on the team, respectively, and ended among the top-100 finishers in a field of 302 athletes ... Sophomore Travis Sutter and freshman Alex Loeper rounded out the team's top-seven finishers last weekend.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is currently in his 10th season as head coach of the men's and women's cross country teams at Ohio Northern ... He enters the weekend with an overall win-loss record in men's cross country of 993-224, just seven wins shy of eclipsing the 1,000 career wins mark, good for a winning percentage of .815 … Maus currently stands as the all-time winningest coach in Ohio Northern school history for both men's and women's cross country.
