Volleyball wraps up OAC slate with 4-set loss at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The Ohio Northern volleyball team wrapped up the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule with a 26-24, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23 loss at John Carroll on Saturday afternoon. 

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (19-7 Overall, 5-4 OAC), John Carroll (17-8 Overall, 6-3 OAC).
• Venue: DeCarlo Varsity Center - University Heights, Ohio.

Match Highlights

• Senior Lauren James (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) had a season-high 14 kills and nine blocks to lead ONU.
• Freshman Summer Hoying (Fort Loramie) had 13 kills.
• Senior Sonia Dahlin (Minnetonka, Minn.) chipped in 11 kills.
• Senior Rachel Jennings (Novi, Mich.) had 17 digs.
• Senior Grace Conrad (Somerset/Sheridan) had 46 assists.
• John Carroll was led by Abby Bednar with 17 kills.
• The Polar Bears hit .175 for the match with 57 kills, while the Blue Streaks hit .174 with 56 kills in the match.

 Notables

• Ohio Northern leads the all-time series against JCU by a 49-8 margin. ONU is now 20-4 on the road in the series.
• The Polar Bears finish fifth in the OAC regular season standings.
• ONU will be the No. 5 seed in the 6-team OAC Tournament Nov. 12-16 with the victory.
• James is 7th all-time in ONU history with 359 total blocks and is 9th with 85 block solos in 99 career matches.
• Jennings has 2,026 career digs in 104 career matches and remains No. 5 on ONU's all-time top 10 list in that category.
• Jennings entered the 2024 season ranked eighth nationally in digs among active Division III players.
• Conrad is eighth on ONU's all-time career assist list with 2,488 in 104 career matches.
• Senior Erin Wagner (Massillon/Perry) did not play due to an injury. She ranks fourth all-time in ONU's top-10 list for hitting percentage, hitting .330 in 99 career matches.
• She also has 1,186 career kills is 10th all-time in ONU history in that category.
• Sophie Windover is now 35-17 in her two seasons as head coach of the ONU volleyball team, a winning percentage of .673.
