Senior Izzy Burman shatters shot put record, leads Women's Track and Field at non-scoring Ashland Open

ASHLAND — Senior Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) shattered her own school record in the shot put to lead the women's outdoor track and field team at the non-scoring Ashland Alumni Open on Friday and Saturday.

- The non-scoring meet consisted of 18 events, including eight field events, eight running events and two relays.
- ONU won two of the 18 events.
Top ONU Performers
- Burman broke her own shot put record by a 1' 2.75", winning the event at 13.68 meters (44' 10.75").
- The 4x400 relay team of senior Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge), freshman Tatum Walsh (Lima/Bath), freshman Alexa Lane (Lebanon) and sophomore Lily Wolfe (Mansfield/Lexington) won in 3:58.60.
- ONU posted four top-7 finishes in the shot put, with all four ladies now ranking 1-4 all-time in ONU history in the event.
- Senior Hannah Friend (Luckey/Eastwood) was fourth at 13.42 meters, sophomore Anna Brady (Sidney) was fifth at 13.06 meters and sophomore Katelyn Wagner (Sycamore/Wynford) was seventh at 12.96 meters.
- Friend was also third in the elite discus throw at 43.12 meters.
- Junior All-American Claire Schweller (Paulding) was third the pole vault by clearing a career-best 3.95 meters.
- Senior Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll) was fifth in the 800 in 2:20.50.
- Wagner was also fifth in the javelin at 33.18 meters.

- Friend is now second all-time at ONU in the shot at 44' .5".
- Schweller improved her PR by a quarter inch and stays at No. 2 all-time in ONU history at 12' 11". She currently ranks seventh nationally in the pole vault at 3.95 meters.
- Brady is now third all-time at ONU in the shot at 42' 10.25".
- Wagner is now fourth all-time at ONU in the shot at 42' 6.25".
- Burman moved up to 15th nationally in the shot at 13.68 meters. She is also 12th in the hammer at 53.65 meters.
- Friend is now 23rd nationally in the shot and is 29th in the discus at 43.73 meters.
- Junior Ellie Ford (Upper Arlington) is currently ranked No. 23 nationally in the pole vault at 3.74 meters.
- The top 22 in each event at the end of the season qualify for the NCAA III Championships May 22-24 in Geneva, Ohio.
- Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 16th year at Ohio Northern and is 525-178-3 in women's outdoor track and field for a winning percentage of .746.
