Pierce's second half goal lifts Women's Soccer to 3-2 victory at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA — A second half goal by senior Elizabeth Pierce (Liberty Township/Mount Notre Dame) lifted the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night. 

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (6-4-1 overall, 2-0-0 OAC), Baldwin Wallace (5-8-0 overall, 0-2-0 OAC).
• Venue: George Finnie Stadium - Berea, Ohio.

The Match

• Pierce scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season just 8:42 into the second half to give the Polar Bears a 3-2 lead.
• Senior Alyssa Beckett (Monroe) scored off an assist from junior Claire Wiseman (Cincinnati/Saint Ursula) at the 6:51 mark of the first half to give ONU a 1-0 lead.
• Senior Emma Bowman (Novi, Mich./Northville) scored just 2:06 later to extend the lead to 2-0.
• The Yellow Jackets pulled within 2-1 with a goal in the 39th minute and tied it at 2-2 just 5:01 into the second half.
• But Pierce would put ONU right back on top with her goal 2:51 later.
• The Polar Bear defense would take over from there, keeping the hosts at bay for the final 46:18 of the match. 
• ONU out-shot BWU 17-10 and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

• Ohio Northern leads the all-time series between the two schools by a 27-10-3 margin, including a 12-7 edge in Berea.
• Northern has won 10 straight in the series.
• Pierce now leads the team with seven goals and 14 points on the season.
• Fifth-year senior Jill Roberts (Bellbrook/Carroll) is second on the team with 13 points and is first with 5 assists.
• Beckett is third with six goals and 12 points.
• This is the 37th season of Ohio Northern women's soccer. The Polar Bears are now 435-217-57 all-time in program history.
• Second-year head coach Ben Tierney is now 16-13-2 at Ohio Northern.
