WESTERVILLE -- The Ohio Northern women's soccer team rallied in the second half to a 2-1 victory over Otterbein Tuesday evening at Clements Field in Westerville.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-5-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals fall to 6-5-2, 1-2-1.
Junior Michaela Gutierrez and freshman Brianna Gruber led the way for the Polar Bear offense with one goal apiece.
After falling behind on an early Otterbein goal, the Polar Bears stifled the Cardinal offense, while holding them to only six first half shots.
Northern would answer in the second half as Gutierrez took a pass from junior Shelby Stephens in the 69th minute to even the score at one apiece.
The Polar Bears would score the go ahead goal in the 74th minute as Stephens played a free kick into the box and Gruber beat the Otterbein keeper with a header to seal the 2-1 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Emily Brodict recorded five saves for ONU and improved her record to 8-5-1 on the year.
Ohio Northern out shot Otterbein 13-8 on the evening.
Northern will return to action Saturday as they play host to Capital at 7pm at Kerscher Stadium.
