Championships Preview: The Ohio Northern women's golf team will be gunning for its third conference championship when it competes at the 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships tournament Friday-Sunday at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio ... The teams will play 72 holes - 27 each day on Friday and Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday ... The OAC Champion will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships May 9-12 at Mission Hills Resort and Club at Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. ... The top 14 individuals will earn All-OAC honors ... Play will begin on Friday with flighted tee times beginning at 9 am ... Northern finished 2022 OAC Championships tied with Otterbein with an OAC record 54-hole total of 974 ... OU edged ONU by one stroke in a one hole, five player playoff ... Ohio Northern won the 2021 OAC crown with a then-school record 990, topping second place Otterbein by 36 strokes ... The Polar Bears also won the 2007 OAC title ... Junior Grace Honigford is a two-time OAC Medalist ... She tied with Otterbein's Lyndsay Blum with a 236 for Medalist honors last year ... In 2021, she won Medalist honors with a school-record 234, finishing 12 strokes clear of the field ... All five of ONU's players expected to compete this weekend are returning All-Conference honorees ... Last year, sophomore Amelia Burger finished fifth with a 247 and senior Isabella Orofino was 10th with a 251 ... Senior Torrie Smith finished fifth at the 2021 OAC Championships ... Northern is led in scoring thus far this season by Honigford with a 78.9 average for 16 rounds ... Burger is second at 81.4, freshman Marisa Alfes is third at 81.7, sophomore Rhianna Firmstone is fourth at 82.1, Orofino is fifth at 87.4 and Smith is sixth at 90.4.
