Freshman Rhianna Firmstone ties school record, leads Women's Golf split-squad to third place finish at Heidelberg Fall Invitational

FOSTORIA — Freshman Rhianna Firmstone (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) tied the school record with a 74-77—151 to lead the Ohio Northern women's golf team to a third place finish at the Heidelberg Fall Invitational on Saturday at the Fostoria Country Club.

One day after the Polar Bears (24-4 overall) tied the school's 18-hole team record with an opening round 318, the split-squad posted a 323 to finish with a 641 - which is the second-lowest 36-hole total in school history.

Northern had three top-10 finishers on the 5668-yard, par-72 course.

Freshman Madyson Smith (Russiaville, Ind./Western) tied for fifth with a career-low 80-76—156 and senior Karlee Staugler (Saint Henry) finished 10th with a career-low 81-80—161.

Allegheny (Pa.) won the team title with a 313-320—633, Adrian (Mich.) was second with a 316-318—634 and Wooster finished fourth with a 338-331—669.

Junior Torrie Smith (Kokomo, Ind./Western) tied for 30th with an 83-90–183 and junior Meghan Utterdyke (Lebanon/Bishop Fenwick) tied for 41st with an 87-92—179.

The 318 tied the school record set in April in the first round of the Otterbein Invitational.

The other half of the Polar Bear split-squad began play in the 36-hole Bluffton Beaver Classic on Saturday at 1 pm.
