Brynn Serbin scores career-high 19 points, tallies double-double as Women’s Basketball falls to #10 Baldwin Wallace in overtime

ADA — Ohio Northern junior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) scored a career-high 19 points and tied a career-high with 10 rebounds, tallying her second double-double of the season Wednesday night as the Polar Bears fell 64-58 to No. 10 Baldwin Wallace at the ONU Sports Center.
Northern falls to 14-6 overall and 8-5 in the OAC while the Yellow Jackets improve to 16-3, 13-1.
Senior Jaidyn Hale (Lima/Bath) added 11 points and three rebounds for ONU, and senior Alissa Stahler (Lima/Shawnee) finished with eight points and four rebounds.
Senior Lexi Jacobs (Wapakoneta) chipped in seven points, and sophomore Kristen Luersman (Fort Jennings) tallied five points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Lilly Edwards was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line and led BWU with 12 points.
ONU led 53-51 with 45 seconds left in regulation following a 7-0 run that included a 3-pointer from Serbin, a pair of free throws from Stahler and a layup from Hale, but Edwards made both of her free throws after being fouled on the next possession, tying the score with 32 seconds remaining.
A shot from Hale was blocked by BWU's Megan Hensel with four seconds left, sending the game to overtime.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first five points of overtime on a pair of free throws from Edwards and a 3-pointer from Regan Schill for a 58-53 lead.
Jacobs answered with a layup to cut the Polar Bears' deficit to three with 3:24 remaining, but they were unable to get any closer.
Sparked by eight points from Serbin, Northern led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 30-26 at halftime.
BWU took a 44-38 lead into the fourth quarter and led by as many as eight points in the period before the Polar Bears came back to force overtime.
Ohio Northern made 19-of-58 field goals for 32.8% and was 4-of-17 from 3-point range for 23.5%, while the Yellow Jackets made 18-of-59 field goals for 30.5% and were 8-of-31 from beyond the arc for 25.8%.
The Polar Bears were 16-of-22 from the foul line for 72.7% while BWU was 20-of-25 for 80.0%.
ONU out-rebounded BWU by a 44-39 margin.
Northern returns to the court on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ohio Athletic Conference foe No. 8 John Carroll as part of a women's-men's doubleheader.
