Emily Mescher scores 12, leads Women's Basketball in 58-50 loss at Marietta

MARIETTA — Senior Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local) scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Ohio Northern women's basketball team in a 58-50 loss at Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Ban Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Polar Bears fall to 15-6 overall and are 9-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers improve to 11-10, 7-7.
Alexis Enochs, Bailee Brooks and Luce Duritza had 10 points each to lead MC.
Mescher scored six of her points in the first 5:23 of the game to give ONU an early 12-9 advantage.
A free throw by sophomore Kate Iliff (Lorain/Amherst Steele) with 6:08 left in the half gave Ohio Northern its largest lead of the game at 19-13.
Marietta answered with a 10-0 run over the next 4:32 to take the lead for good at 23-19.
MC led 25-21 at halftime and 46-39 after three quarters.
Senior Abby Weeks (West Chester/Mount Notre Dame) scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to get ONU within 46-41.
But the hosts would score the next five points to go up 51-41 with 6:32 to go and Northern would not get within six points the rest of the way.
Northern made 19-of-57 field goal attempts for 33.3 percent and was 4-of-27 from 3-point range for 14.8 percent. Marietta was 21-of-66 from the floor for 31.8 percent and was 7-of-19 from beyond the arc for 36.8 percent.
MC out-rebounded ONU 45-41.
The Polar Bears will return home on Wednesday for a 7 pm contest against Otterbein at the ONU Sports Center.
