Bullimore's ninth double-double of the season leads Women's Basketball against #25 Carnegie Mellon in 2nd Round of NCAA III Tournament

HOLLAND, Mich. — Sophomore Amy Bullimore had game-highs of 25 points and 16 rebounds, but it was not enough as No. 25-ranked Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) built a big lead and held on for a 68-65 victory over No. 14 Ohio Northern in the Second Round of the NCAA III Tournament Saturday night at Hope College's DeVos Fieldhouse.
The Polar Bears end their season with a 23-5 record, while the Tartans improve to 21-6.
Senior Carly Thomas scored 17 points and senior Karissa Steffas added 11 points for ONU.
CMU was led by Jackie Hudepohl with 20 points, Lisa Murphy with 17 points and Lindsay Poss with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The Tartans shot 59.7 percent from the floor in the first half and made the first basket of the second half to take a 41-25 lead.
But the Polar Bears began chipped away at the lead over the next 17 minutes.
Northern was within 56-46 at the end of the third period and were within 61-56 with 4:58 left in the game.
Bullimore scored inside at the 4:45 mark and made two free throws 21 seconds later to pull the Polar Bears within 61-60.
Bullimore scored again with 2:32 remaining to give Ohio Northern its first lead since it was 2-0 at 62-61.
But the Tartans would score on their next three possessions to regain a 66-62 lead with 39 second to go.
Thomas got fouled shooting a 3 and made all three free throws with 19 seconds to go to pull ONU within 66-65.
CMU then made 1-of-2 free throws, but rebounded the miss and got back to the foul line with 10 second to go.
The Tartans again made 1-of-2 free throws to go up 68-65 and ONU called a timeout with 7.5 second to play.
Thomas came off a screen and got a shot off, but her hurried attempt was off target and CMU had escaped with the win.
Ohio Northern made 26-of-74 field goal attempts for 35.1 percent, while carmegie Mellon was 25-of-53 from the floor for 47.2 percent.
CMU out-rebounded ONU 44-35 but committed 18 turnovers to just eight for Ohio Northern.
