Yoder, Kimes lead Women's Basketball in OAC Tournament finals

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championship game to Capital 67-50 Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears fall to 23-5 on the season while the Crusaders improve to 19-8.
Northern was paced by senior Cenzie Yoder, who recorded 16 points and pulled down six rebounds on the night.
Junior Jordan Kimes finished with her 12th double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Capital was led by Jamie Caton with a game-high 20 points.
Capital forced the Polar Bears into 24 turnovers on the night and took advantage by outscoring ONU 26-6 in points off turnovers.
CU wasted no time grabbing the lead, opening the game up on a quick 7-0 run just over two minutes into the game.
Back-to-back layups by Kimes and a free throw by senior Sara Kocian would cut the Crusader lead to 7-5 with 15:26 remaining in the first half.
Capital pulled ahead 18-13 before a personal 4-0 spurt from Yoder pulled Northern within 18-17 with 9:25 remaining in the first half.
That was the closest Northern got to Capital as the Crusaders went into the half holding a 28-24 lead.
Capital cruised in the second half outscoring ONU 39-26 to seal the win at 60-57.
Northern shot 50 percent from the floor on 21-of-42 shooting and 9.1 percent from beyond the three point line on 1-of-11 shooting.
Capital finished the night shooting 45.2 percent on 28-of-62 shooting and 45.5 percent from three point land on 5-of-11 shooting.
With the win, Capital receives an automatic bid to the NCAA DIII Tournament.
