Men's Tennis clinches share of fourth consecutive OAC Regular Season championship with 4-3 victory at Otterbein in battle of league unbeatens

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team clinched at least a share of its fourth consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season championship withg a 4-3 victory at Otterbein in a battle of league unbeatens on a warm and beautiful Thursday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (9-7 Overall, 3-0 OAC); Otterbein (13-8 Overall, 2-1 OAC).

Individual Highlights
- ONU won all three the doubles courts to win the doubles point, then won three of the six singles courts to record the victory.
- Freshman Noah Boyce (Oakwood) clinched the title with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles to put Northern on top 4-2.
- Sophomore Kessler Hackenberger (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles to give ONU a 2-0 lead.
- Sophomore Tyler Wood (Toledo/St. John's) then won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to extend the lead to 3-2.
- The Cardinals won courts 1 and 6 to pull within 3-2.
- Senior Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) and Wood and won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
- Boyce and junior T.J. Schultz (Grand Blanc, Mich.) won 7-6(7) at No. 2 doubles.
- Hackenberger and sophomore Kosuke Asada (Findlay) won 7-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Notables
- The Polar Bears have now won or shared 13 OAC Regular Season titles since the league began its current round-robin regular season schedule format to select the regular season title in 2000.
- ONU leads the series between the two schools by a 42-13 margin.
- The NCAA had adopted a 7-point team scoring system for Division III, where the three doubles contests only count for one team point as is used in NCAA Divisions I and II.
- Wood leads the team with a 18-6 singles record and Boyce is right behind at 17-8.
- Specht, Wood and Boyce each have 12 doubles wins.
- Wood has a team-best 30-19 overall record.
- Boyce is second overall at 29-20.

- Senior Sam Sran (Punjab, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) is 51-41 in singles, 28-37 in doubles and is 79-78 overall.
- Third-year head coach Sean Swisher is 41-21 at the helm of the ONU men's tennis team, a winning percentage of .661.
