Men's Lacrosse team notches 100th program win with 24-2 victory at Heidelberg

TIFFIN — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team earned its 100th program win, defeating Heidelberg 24-2 in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest on a cool Tuesday evening.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (8-4 Overall, 3-1 OAC), Heidelberg (3-8 Overall, 0-4 OAC).
- Venue: Hoernemann Stadium - Tiffin, Ohio.
The Game
- Freshman Cooper Mulligan (Middletown/Bishop Fenwick) had a five-goal hat trick and had an assist to lead the Polar Bears.
- Junior Colin Willits (West Chester/Lakota West) earned a three-goal hat trick and had an assist.
- Sophomore Mitchel Luck (Linden, Mich.) had three goals and two assists to help Northern.
- Sophomore Jack Chaney (Westerville/South) had two goals and four assists.
- The Orange and Black opened the game going on a 4-0 run.
- After a Heidelberg goal, the Polar Bears went on 5-0 to close out the first period to extend the lead to 9-1.
- ONU scored six unanswered goals in the second period to extend the lead to 15-1 heading into halftime.
- Northern started the third period hot with a 5-0 run making it 20-1.
- ONU would lead 23-1 heading into the fourth period.
- The Student Princes were led by Matthew Torres and Racye Septer.
- Four different Polar Bear goalies combined to get the win.
- 14 different Polar Bears scored goals in the contest.
- ONU out-shot HU 61-11 and had the ground ball advantage 54-14.

- Sophomore Ryan Frech (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) leads the team in caused turnovers this season with 20 and in ground balls with 40.
- Senior Chad Calderwood (Portland, Ore./Episcopal) won 8 of 8 in faceoffs on the day, extending his school record to 506 for his career.
- He also has the career ground balls record with 235.
- Willits is sixth all-time in ONU history with 70 career goals.
