Tyler Davis wins Medalist honors with record-tying 140, leads Men's Golf to team title at Defiance Invitational

DEFIANCE — Sophomore Tyler Davis tied a school record with a 36-hole total of 140, leading the Ohio Northern men's golf team to the team title at the 5-team Defiance Spring Invitational on Saturday-Sunday at Eagle Rock Golf Course.
ONU (40-16 overall) carded a team score of 296-298—594, which is the third-lowest 36-hole total in school history.
Ohio Northern has now come in first in three consecutive tournaments.
Hanover (Ind.) was second with a 300-311—611, Tiffin was third with a 305-319—624 and Defiance was fourth with a 307-322—639.
Davis fired a 2-under par 69 in the first round and an even par 71 in the second round to lead the 40-man field.
Senior Colin Burns and freshman Zach Goodchild tied for sixth with 151s, sophomore Blaine Ricketts tied for ninth with a 76-77—153 and junior Rick Deichert tied for 16th with a 78-81—157 for ONU.
Playing as an individual, senior Ryan Wirtz tied for second with a 74-75—149.
The Polar Bears will return to action Thursday with a dual meet against Heidelberg at the River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio.
