Saturday's Preview: The Polar Bears continue their 2021-22 season on Saturday at Ohio Athletic Conference foe Capital at 4 p.m. as the second half of a women's-men's doubleheader … The Polar Bears are coming off of Saturday's 72-56 home loss to No. 17 Mount Union … Trailing 33-25 at halftime, ONU eventually got back within two, 51-49, with 10:38 left but was unable to get any closer ... Senior Brandon Waugh scored a team-high 15 points for ONU and was 4-of-8 from 3-point range while adding 5 rebounds and 3 assists ... Junior C.J. Napier added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists, and junior Michael Berner chipped in 10 points and 4 rebounds, while junior Adam Scott finished with 9 points ... ONU is averaging 70.6 points per game and allowing 76.1 points per contest … The Polar Bears are shooting 43.7% from the field, 33.1% on 3-pointers and 64.2% from the foul line … Northern currently has 4 players averaging double figures in scoring with Napier (13.8 points per game), Waugh (12.1), Landen Long (11.9) and Scott (10.6) … Napier ranks 12th in the OAC in scoring average and his team-high 7.9 rebounds per game is tied for fifth in the conference … Napier also leads ONU in steals with 11 … Waugh currently ranks 16th on the program's all-time career steals list with 119 … His 209 career assists are 29 shy of breaking the top 20 on the ONU leaderboard in that category … The Polar Bears will next play a two-game set in the Otterbein Invitational on Dec. 29-30 against Ohio Wesleyan and Olivet (Mich.) … Capital is coming off of last Friday's 85-67 win at John Carroll … Freshman Dom Moegerle led the way with 21 points while junior Griffin Doseck added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds … Capital is averaging 78.3 points per game while allowing 69.0 points per contest … The Comets are shooting 45.5% from the floor, 38% on 3-pointers and 72.3% from the foul line … Sophomore David Sanford (11.2 points per game), freshman Alex Eyink (11.1) and senior Tyler Schreck (10.1) are averaging double-figure scoring for Capital … Schreck is averaging a double-double with a team-high 10.7 rebounds per game … Schreck also leads the team in assists (42) and steals (15) … Schreck leads the OAC in rebounds per game, ranks second in assists and is tied for second in steals.
