Baseball drops tight 9-6 decision to Baldwin Wallace in finals of OAC Tournament

ALLIANCE — Ohio Northern dropped a 9-6 decision to Baldwin Wallace in the finals Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (29-12 Overall), Baldwin Wallace (30-13 Overall).

Game Highlights
- The Polar Bears got off to a slow start, allowing the Yellow Jackets to load the bases in each of the first three innings, but BWU would get only two runs while stranding nine base runners in those innings.
- Northern got a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2-2.
- Sophomores Kyle Callahan (Brunswick) and Evan Russ (Westfield, Ind.) had back-to-backl RBI doubles in the bottom of the sixth to key a 3-run inning to give Northern a 6-3 lead.
- But Baldwin Wallace would plate six runs in the top oif the seventh and hold on for the victory.
- Senior Sam Sells (Lewis Center/Olentagy), and junior Robbie Reed (Goshen, Ky./Trinity) each had two hits to lead ONU.

- This was ONU's first appearance in the conference title game sine 2000.
- Callahan, senior Sam Thombs (Commerce Township, Mich./Lutheran), junior Chase Armstrong (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) and sophomore Kyler Lapp (Hall, Ill.) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
- Ohio Northern now trails the all-time series with Baldwin Wallace by 61-55 margin.
- Through 41 games this season, senior Elliott Veenstra (Findlay/Liberty-Benton) leads the Polar Bears with a .360 batting average, going 41-for-114 with 28 RBI.
- Armstrong has seven home runs and a team-best 39 RBI this season.
