Six Polar Bears named to College Sports Communicators Men’s Academic All-District At-Large Team

ADA — Ohio Northern seniors Teagan Hendricks (Jamestown/Greeneview), Gavin Layman (Chesterton, Ind.), Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) and Cael Vanderhorst (Covington) and juniors Nathan Flynn (Springboro) and Colin Willits (West Chester/Lakota West) were named to the 2025 men's Academic All-District At-Large Team by the College Sports Communicators.
Hendricks, Layman, Reed and Vanderhorst are Polar Bear wrestlers and Flynn and Willits are members of the ONU men's lacrosse team.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, each student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 GPA and met the participation requirements of their respective sports.
In lacrosse, student athletes must have either played in at least 90 percent of his team's competitions or started 66 percent of them. In wrestling, the student athletes must have competed in at least 70 percent of the team's scoring events.
The CSC's at-large sports include fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Hendricks is a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier, two-time CSC Academic All-District selection and three-time Academic All-OAC selection.
He finished 33-15 this season with nine pins at 165 pounds. In his career, he is 113-49 with 39 pins.
Hendricks is majoring in Computer Engineering.
Layman is a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier. He is also a three-time All-OAC, three-time Academic All-OAC and three-time CSC Academic All-District selection.
This season, Layman went 31-9 with five pins at 197 pounds. He is 125-51 in his career at ONU.
Layman is majoring in Computer Science.
Reed was named the John Summa OAC Wrestler of the Year for the second time in his career this season. He is also a three-time All-American, four-time NCAA Championships qualifier, four-time All-OAC selection, three-time Academic All-OAC selection and two-time CSC Academic All-District selection.
He finished the season at 32-3 and led the team with 19 pins. In his career at ONU, he is second all-time in ONU history with a 148-10 record.
Reed is majoring in Civil Engineering.
Vanderhorst qualified for the NCAA Championships this season and was a first-time All-OAC selection, being named First Team.
He finished the season 30-11 with nine pins. In his career, he has a 78-26 record.
Vanderhorst is majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Flynn was named First Team All-OAC this season and is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection.
He played in all 21 games this season, starting 15, with 25 points on 13 goals and 12 assists. He also had 44 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. In 58 career games, he has 27 goals and 23 assists for 50 points, along with 69 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.
Flynn is majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Willits was also named First Team All-OAC this season and is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection.
He started all 21 games this season, breaking the single-season record for goals in a season with 55. He also had 13 assists and a team-high 68 points.
In three years at ONU, he has 123 points on 97 goals and 26 assists. He is ranked fourth all-time in ONU history in goals, sixth in points, and tied for tenth in assists.
Willits is majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
