ONU Race Notes: The Ohio Northern men's cross country team returns to the course this weekend following a two-week competition break as they join the field at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships Saturday, September 29 at Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, Ohio ... The women's 6k championship race will start the afternoon at 2 p.m. while the men's 8k race is slated to begin at 2:45 p.m. ... After the championship races, there will also be an open 6k race for the women and an open 8k race for the men starting at 3:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., respectively ... In the program's most recent outing, Northern finished second among a six-team field at the Blue River Park Memorial College Invitational in Shelbyville, Indiana ... Former All-American and current senior student-athlete Ian McVey cruised to the event's individual title in 26:28, besting the field by an impressive 48 seconds ... He would cross the line first in his 13th consecutive race, dating back to the 2016 season, for the Polar Bears ... Classmate John McNutt would also record a top-10 individual finish, winding up ninth in the field of 86 competitors with a 28:12 clocking ... Freshman Caden Sauerbrey (15th, 28:31), junior Jordan Green (18th, 28:54), senior Spencer Schulze (20th, 29:02), sophomore Sam Krabacher (22nd, 29:24), and freshman Alex Loeper (24th, 29:26) would round out the team's top-seven finishers ... Last season, Ohio Northern won the NCAA Division III meet with a team score of 56 while McVey was the first ONU men's cross country runner to win the All-Ohio Championship individual crown.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is currently in his 10th season as head coach of the men's and women's cross country teams at Ohio Northern ... He enters the weekend with an overall win-loss record in men's cross country of 997-225, just three wins shy of eclipsing the 1,000 career wins mark, good for a winning percentage of .816 … Maus currently stands as the all-time winningest coach in Ohio Northern school history for both men's and women's cross country.
