ONU Race Notes: The Ohio Northern men's cross country team returns to action this weekend as they travel to the Calvin (Mich.) Knight Invitational Saturday, September 8 ... The women will begin the morning's festivities at 10 a.m. with the men's race to follow at approximately 10:45 a.m. ... The Polar Bears enter this weekend's competition with a 4-1 overall record after finishing second place at the Bluffton 6k Invitational on Friday, August 31 to open the 2018 season ... Northern would record a team score of 38 points in the event, trailing NCAA Division II foe Findlay by just 13 points for the top spot ... Senior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) paced the Polar Bears at the Bluffton Nature Preserve, cruising to an individual event title with a time of 18:52.99 to eclipse the field by over 23 seconds ... For his efforts, McVey would be tabbed the OAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Tuesday ... Sophomore Travis Sutter (Fort Recovery) and junior Jordan Green (Wooster) also notched individual top-10 finishes in the season opener, finishing fifth place and eighth place, respectively ... Senior Spencer Schulze (St. Henry), sophomore Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Baden), freshman Caden Sauerbrey (Dresden/Tri-Valley), and senior John McNutt (Ashtabula/Lakeside) rounded out the team's top-seven at the Bluffton 6k Invitational.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is currently in his 10th season as head coach of the men's and women's cross country teams at Ohio Northern ... He enters the weekend with an overall win-loss record of 982-214, good for a winning percentage of .821 … Maus currently stands as the all-time winningest coach in Ohio Northern school history for both men's and women's cross country.
